Howard Taylor, Sr.
Howard Taylor, Sr.

Grandfather (Maternal)
(1917-1971)
My grandfather Howard Taylor, Sr. was born in Ripley, Lauderdale County, Tennessee on October 13, 1914. As with most family members during the time he worked the cotton fields of Tennessee in his earlier years.
Grandpa Howard would wed for the first time November 20, 1932, to Earline Leak(e) Taylor. Just a couple of years later in 1934, their first born, Howard Taylor, Jr. was born.
I'm not certain how long Grandpa Howard and Earline were married or when they divorced. In any event he would met and father another son: Othia Taylor on June 13th, 1936. Uncle Othia's mother was Johnnie Mae (Heggie) Taylor. I've been unable to find a marriage or divorce decree for them.
If grandpa Howard and Johnnie Mae did wed they would have married and divorced in less than a year after uncle Othia's birth.

On May 30th, 1937 grandpa Howard married my grandmother Montyne (Lacy) Taylor and the two shortly left the South and headed for the big city of Chicago, Illinois.
Grandpa Howard and Grandma Tyne are living in Cook County, Chicago in 1940 where he, grandma Tyne, and Uncle Louis their first born are living in a an apartment 4A on South Parkway Street. Grandpa Howard is also working as a Porter at the Petite Drug Store during this time making around $700 a month.
Grandpa Howard and Grandma Tyne were blessed with nine (9) children; six (6) boys and three (3): Lewis (Louis) born in 1939; Lenford (1940); Lawrence (1942); Maurice (1944); Evelyn my mom (1946); Larry (1947); Anna Mae (1949); Sam (1951); and Emma Ruth (1954).
Grandpa Howard would live the remainder of his life in Chicago passing away on June 29, 1971, at the young age of 56. The family would return grandpa to his birth home of Ripley for his final resting place. Grandpa Howard is buried in Saint Luke Cemetery alongside Grandma Tyne.
