Our Many Branches
"the only thing permanent in life is, FAMILY"

Noah Tyson (1808-1874)
2nd great grandfather
Noah was born in Pitt County, North Carolina to Shem and Lucretia Tyson. Noah's Siblings include Archibald (1805); Elizabeth (1811); and John Adams (1815).
Noah, a white slave owner born in North Carolina came to Caddo Parish, Louisiana from Alabama in the period between the 1840 Census record which list in Alabama and the 1850 Census record which list him in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Noah Tyson owned a large plantation that covered much of what was formerly known as Frogs Level, Louisiana and now the town of Rodessa, Louisiana.
The word complex comes to mind when I think of the type of people in the life of Noah Tyson, Sr., the complexities of which most certainly are shrouded in the backdrop of slavery. The family dynamic of this particular branch of our family is one that has a lot of moving parts due in part to Noah fathering children by at least three (3) of his slaves in addition to multiple children by free white women during his life.
The following are the children of Noah Samuel Tyson, Sr. in order of birth:
1) Malinda Tyson (1834) - Brinkley
2) Shem Tyson (1835) - Brinkley
3) Mary E. Tyson (1836) - Brinkley
4) John Tyson (1838) - Brinkley
5) Richard Tyson (1844) - Dunn
6) Martha C. Tyson (1845) - Brinkley
7) Amanda S. Tyson (1847) - Brinkley
8) Noah S. Tyson, Jr. (1849) - Brinkley
9) Mollie Tyson (1850) - Dunn
10) Jefferson Tyson, Sr. (1851) - Dunn
11) Emma Tyson (1854) (twin) - Brinkley
12) Ella Tyson (1854) (twin) - Brinkley
13) Catherine Tyson (1855) - Dunn
14) Robert S. Tyson, Sr. (1858) - Dunn
15) Jane Tyson Gipson (1859) - Spearman
16) Laura Tyson (1861) - Spearman
17) Flora A. Tyson (1864) – Stewart
Prior to the abolishment of slavery Louisa also bore three (3) children by Richard Gipson while both were still enslaved:
1) Hannah (1861)
2) Chester (1862)
3) Augusta (1865)
After slavery was abolished and Louisa and Richard Gipson officially became husband and wife two (2) more children were born:
1) Narcis (1867)
2) Ludella (1869)
I’ve only found two Arkansas marriages for Noah, the first being to Eliza C. Munerline on 23 October 1868 in Lafayette County, Arkansas. This marriage lasted 4 years. The other marriage was to Catherine Boazman on 22 May 1872 in Lafayette County, Arkansas as well. He was 64 at the time of this marriage. I’ve found no children born to either of these marriages.
