George W. Lacy

3rd Great Grandfather (Maternal)

Rev. George W. Lacy was born in Mississippi around 1831. His father was an enslaver by the name of Freeman Lacy. George's mother's name is not known at this time and may never be known, so I will affectionately refer to her as Mother Mississippi until her name has been identified. DNA matches with distant relatives of the Freeman Lacy branch confirms our relationship to the branch.

St. Luke's Church in Ripley, Tennessee which stands today was established and built on land donated by George. He pastored St. Luke's for nearly 40 years. He and many of our Lacy-Taylor family members are interned in St. Luke's which is adjacent to the church.

My maternal 3rd great grandfather George married his first wife Edmonia sometime before the birth of their first child William in 1851. George and Edmonia had nine (9) children together based on census records that I've come across.
